SHAKESPEARE By NORTHCOTT

On Monday 20th October 2008, residents of the Northcott housing estate in Surry Hills took to the stage in a one off performance of Shakespeare at the Belvoir Street Theatre.

The production presented various works by Shakespeare including plays and poems which were adapted to reflect the life of the Northcott Community. Some of the plays included Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, Julius Caesar, Macbeth and A Midsummer nights Dream.

The actors involved were of all ages and cultural backgrounds and they clearly enjoyed expressing their thoughts and feelings through the plays and poems they presented. The stage set and costumes were very colourful and creative, adding to the charm of the play.

A highlight of the performance was The Northcott Witches, adapted from Macbeth, which received lots of laugher from the audience. The performers received a standing ovation from the audience.

This project was led by the Surry Hills Public Tenants Association, funded by the City of Sydney and Inner Sydney Regional Council for Social Development, and supported by Company B and TAFE Outreach Ultimo.
